Deadline for starting October 1st during the 2010-2011 Session is September 25th

The deadline for starting the week of October 4th during our 2010-2011 Session (September 6th 2010 through September 5th 2011) is September 25th. The 2010-2011 session officially begins on September 6th, but new students will start week of October 4th. The application must be on file, registration fees, and tuition must be paid by September 25th in order to start on the week of October 4th.

Enrollment Procedure:

1) Inquiry & Open House Session

If you are interested in learning more about PPK, please complete our online form to RSVP your attendance to our Open House meeting. Open house is for adults only and children do not attend. This first step in our enrollment process allows you to get to know us further and see firsthand our teaching facility. Your admission application does not have to be on file to attend an open house.  During the meeting you will learn about how our piano program was developed, the curriculum we use, the fee schedule, and our admissions process. Open house sessions generally last about an hour. Parents are provided with the opportunity to learn more about our program directly from the instructors themselves and to address pertinent questions about the admission process and the PPK! program.

These sessions are great opportunities to ask questions and come to understand how our program differs from other music programs. All sessions last for approximately 90 minutes and are held only Saturday dates shown on the RSVP form.

Submit our online RSVP form to let us know you are coming.

2) Complete the Enrollment Application for Enrollment 2010-2011

The Enrollment Application is made available to you upon your attendance at our open house. The Enrollment Application should be submitted as early as possible to expedite the enrollment process. Submission of this document is required to formally begin the admission process. It generally takes 3 to 4 business days for us to process the application.

3) Complete the Parent Statement form

Attached to the Enrollment Application is a 3-page Parent Statement questionnaire which is designed to help us understand your family better. All information that you give us is kept strictly confidential. Please take your time to carefully answer the questions and then submit this form along with the rest of the application. This document is required to move forward with the enrollment process.

4) Arrange for a Trial Lesson

The trial lesson is the final step of the admission process. Parents of the child applicant will be contacted to arrange a time for their child to meet with an assigned instructor for a private one-on-one lesson. The trial lesson is preview lesson and lasts for about 15 minutes. During this time, the child will be taught a short piece of music and rewarded with stickers for his or her participation. The trial is an important final opportunity for parents to observe the teacher-student interaction as it pertains to their child. It also provides both the parent and the teacher insight into the child's responsiveness to instruction.

5) We will notify you soon after deciding your family is a good fit for our program.

6) Submit a private lesson scheduling form and remit the tuition payment along with $65 registration fee.

All of the above must be completed no later than the deadlines shown above.

Questions and Answers

What kind of piano program is Preschool Piano Kids?

PPK is a progressive independent piano program serving approximately 80 boys and girls in preschool through kindergarten. PPK offers an exceptional program with a balanced curriculum, strong curricula, meaningful and relevant learning experiences, respect for individual differences and a focus on individual development. PPK does not pit students against one another; instead, we focus on personal growth.

How may students attend PPK?

Our entire piano program, including our older students, serves about 100-120 girls and boys.

Is Preschool Piano Kids accredited?

There is currently no accreditation process for music programs. As soon as one becomes available, we will apply. In the interim, we adhere to the Ethical Principles of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Research in Child Development.

When was Preschool Piano Kids founded?

PPK started as a formal entity in 2007. However, Dr. Marcie Zinn founded a preschool piano program very similar to PPK in 1979.

What is progressive education? What does it have to do with piano lessons?

Our approach is designed to promote high Self-Efficacy. This construct was, and is, extensively developed by Albert Bandura, Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Stanford University. We know that learning is an active and interactive process, so we design our program to give students as many different experiences in piano as possible. Our students learn from one another in their peer interactions, while we honor their individuality in the private lesson. We teach students to learn (learn to learn), so as to raise self-awareness of their own individual thinking processes. We work with students through discussion, interaction and collaboration. We know that piano learning is a multi-factorial process and acknowledge that process through our meaningful teaching modalities.

Preschool Piano Kids immerses preschool students in a complete Comprehensive Musicianship Program. Music study (piano study) to help each child reach his or her pinnacle of genetic endowment. Piano, if taught well, has a highly positive effect on our lives and help us become better human beings. Music has been described as a universal means of expression which has been manifest over the centuries in all parts of the world. By creating a powerful sequence of activities and integrating these with every child on an individual basis, students thrive in our psychologically safe and supportive environment. Our students learn through meaningful experience and become insightful questioners, impressive musicians, thinkers and inspired action-takers.

Our comprehensive musicianship curriculum and approach is based on the philosophy that every person has the ability to learn piano and be all they can be. To accomplish our goals, we provide strong student and teacher partnerships. We bring together families of all backgrounds who are excited about learning piano and participate cooperatively. When considering an applicant we consider factors such as willingness to provide adequate practice materials, parental commitment, previous music lessons, a child's current school status, and qualities of character.

Families are drawn to Preschool Piano Kids' progressive Cognitive Resource Management / music approach, the level of education of our teachers, our enriched curriculum and our psychologically safe and supportive environment, and our incredible facilities. Our program is very popular, so only about 30% of applicants are accepted every year.

Preschool Piano Kids admits students of any race, religion, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, national and ethnic origin in administration of its training policies, admissions policies, and other programs.

Thank you for your interest in Preschool Piano Kids. We look forward to meeting you and your family and helping you learn more about our one-of-a-kind approach to preschool cognitive enhancement through music training.
